STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – According to official statistics, Sweden’s industrial output decreased by 1.5% in June compared to the same month in the previous year. Seasonal adjustment showed a 0.4% decline from May. Statistics Sweden reported that the industrial Production Value Index was at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May. This June figure followed a revised 7.6% yearly rise in May, indicating a clear shift from the previous month’s strong annual growth.

Manufacturing output fell 1.0% compared to June 2025 and 0.4% from May, while mining and quarrying experienced a sharper drop, decreasing 13.8% year on year. The segment’s output also declined 3.3% from May. Industry accounts for 20.2% of Sweden’s broader private-sector production measure, with manufacturing making up most of that share, representing 19.4 percentage points of the total weight.
Despite the decline in June, industrial production remained elevated over the second quarter, with average output from April through June rising 4.0% from the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted data shows a 4.8% increase from the previous three months. Additionally, Sweden’s overall private-sector production grew in June, up 0.4% from May and 1.8% compared to a year earlier.
Private-sector output shows yearly expansion
Services production dipped 0.2% from May but remained 3.0% higher than June 2025. Construction activity climbed 2.0% on the month and grew 7.6% from the same month in 2025. The services index stood at 111.9, compared with 112.1 in May, while construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services constitute 67.2% of the broader production measure, with construction accounting for 8.4%.
Separate figures from Statistics Sweden revealed a significant rise in new industrial orders during June, which increased 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. On a calendar basis, they were 29.9% higher than in June 2025. Export orders surged 56.5% from May and 57.6% from the previous year, whereas domestic orders remained nearly unchanged month-on-month but fell 7.4% annually.
Transport sector leads export order gains
Transport equipment experienced the strongest growth among key industrial order categories, with orders jumping 101.0% from May and 118.2% from June 2025. Manufacturing orders increased by 33.2% on the month and 31.2% annually, while capital-goods orders rose 45.5% from May and 50.7% year on year. In contrast, mining and quarrying orders declined 1.8% from the previous month and 19.0% from a year earlier.
Looking at the first half of 2026, total industrial orders were 4.0% higher than during the same period in 2025, with export orders up 6.6%. The indicators for production and orders measure different facets of industrial activity: the Production Value Index reflects output changes at constant prices, whereas the orders series tracks new demand from domestic and international clients. Initial monthly figures may be subject to revision as further data becomes available.
